Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure

Holy Family Catholic Academy and Early Learning Center held their 2nd annual Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure this morning.  Well over four hundred (400) participated in the walk--including students in grades preschool through 8th grade, faculty, staff and parent volunteers.

The students have been preparing for this walk for weeks now--collecting donations for the Susan G. Komen Hawaii chapter, as well as promoting and making posters for the event.  Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure

Students were encouraged to wear pink shirts today, to show their support of breast cancer awareness.

The 1.2-mile walk was from Holy Family Catholic Academy campus down Main Street and back.  The students had fun on the walk carrying their event posters and big bunches of pink balloons, as well as marching to the beat of the drums--thanks to HFCA's music department.  Susan G. KomenParent volunteers ensured the safety of the students as they crossed the street in marked crosswalks.

Event Co-Chairperson, Mr. Darwin Nazarino, encouraged the students to serve their community by donating their time, money and efforts toward this greater cause--breast cancer awareness.  As Christians, we are taught to serve others.  This event epitomizes what God teaches us--to spread His teachings and good news through fellowship and community service.Walk for the Cure
HFCA parent Mr. Patrick Garnett and over a dozen military service members from the US Navy Transient Personnel Unit (TPU) volunteered at the event. They generously donated and handed out ice cold juice and water to all event participants--both at the halfway point and at the end of the walk.

At the conclusion of the walk, event Co-Chairperson, Mrs. Debbie Gibo--a breast-cancer survivor herself--introduced two representatives from Susan G. Komen Hawaii, Kat Young and Greta Henson.  Susan G.
